DiffServ-Aware Streaming of H.264 Video

چکیده
In this paper we present a method for streaming video generated by the state-of-the-art H.264 codec over IP networks supporting the Differentiated Services (DiffServ) architecture, in particular the Assured Forwarding (AF) per-hop behavior. The scheme takes advantage of both AF’s packet drop priorities and some novel features of the H.264 codec, so as to protect the most important information in terms of visual quality and reduce distorsion under network congestion. The proposed method is evaluated by means of the H.264 reference software codec, network simulation and objective video quality measurements. Our results show that the proposed method allows to achieve a higher quality than traditional best-effort streaming. Key-words: IP networks, DiffServ, Assured Forwarding, video streaming, H.264.

Delay-aware Fountain Codes for Video Streaming with Optimal Sampling Strategy
The explosive demand of on-line video from smart mobile devices poses unprecedented challenges to delivering high quality of experience (QoE) over wireless networks. Streaming high-definition video with low delay is difficult mainly due to (i) the stochastic nature of wireless channels and (ii) the fluctuating videos bit rate. To address this, we propose a novel delay-aware fountain coding (DAF...
متن کاملAggregated QoS Mapping Framework for Relative Service Differentiation-Aware Video Streaming
This research investigates the Quality of Service (QoS) interaction at the edge of differentiated service (DiffServ) domain, denoted by video gateway (VG). VG is responsible for coordinating the QoS mapping between video applications and DiffServ enabled network. To accomplish the goal of achieving economical and high-quality end-to-end video streaming, which utilizes its awareness of relative ...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Concurrent Multipath Video Streaming in Multihomed Mobile Networks
High-quality real-time video streaming to users in mobile networks is challenging due to the dynamically changing nature of the network paths, particularly the limited bandwidth and varying end-to-end delay. In this paper, we empirically investigate the performance of multipath streaming in the context of multihomed mobile networks. Existing schemes that make use of the aggregated bandwidth of ...

In this paper we propose several mapping schemes for streaming video generated by state–of–the–art H.264 codec over IEEE 802.11e enabled wireless LANs. The schemes take advantage of both 802.11e’s QoS mechanism and some novel features of the H.264 codec, so as to protect the most important information in terms of visual quality and reduce distortion under network congestion. The proposed method...
متن کاملMVP2P: Layer-Dependency-Aware Live MVC Video Streaming over Peer-to-Peer Networks
Multiview video supports observing a scene from different viewpoints. The Joint Video Team (JVT) developed H.264/MVC to enhance the compression efficiency for multiview video, however, MVC encoded multiview video (MVC video) still requires the high bitrates for transmission. This paper investigates live MVC video streaming over Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks. The goal is to minimize the server ban...
